Euro X-Games in Tignes – March 10-13

We’ll be heading to Tignes tomorrow for the inaugural European Winter X-Games, with Faction activist Mirjam Jaeger competing in the Womens Superpipe and hoping to get up onto the podium this time, competing on Kristi Leskinen’s Pro Model ski, the 173cm Aria.

We’ll also be having on-snow testing during the event at Snowpark store in Tignes Le Lac – drop on by and check out the 2010/11 range.

Beanie Milne Home – Feb Whistler Update

It’s been a busy February in Whistler and the Olympics are truly underway, resulting in a very quite mountain and a very busy town, the atmosphere is amazing. There are lots of free gigs going on, Swollen Members played the other night with skiers and snowboarders jumping through rings of fire behind them and a huge snowball fight in the crowd, pretty awesome.

The mountain itself has been so quite all month and with amazing snow conditions and blue skies I have managed to get out touring and hiking a fair amount. I have been eyeing up Fissile, all winter and set out for a mission with a couple of mates, it was very cloudy but we hoped the light would break through, it didn’t. I managed to get a bluebird day out to Decker Mountain with friend Martha Burley who was over from Fernie, introducing me to two local photographers, Amy McDermid and Delaney Zayac, a perfect tour with fresh tracks and sweet terrain.

Few other odds and ends going on, myself and flatmate Claire Hughes have been going to Trampolining at Whistler Gymnastics. Hoping to improve our park riding, we are shown up every week by the group of fourteen year old boys we go with, but got the front flips dialed now – yet to try them off a cliff…

Faction clean up in Fernie Big Mountain comp

The Smith Optics Fernie Freeski Competition is a 3 day Big Mountain event run above the lift accessed terrain at Fernie Alpine Resort. Its all the amazing Big Mountain stuff you can see from the resort but have to hike up to – and days 2 and 3 were actually on permanently closed terrain.

Day one was pretty foggy and organisers threatened to run the qualifiers on what one could call a bumps run – but thank goodness the weather was so bad they pulled out the weather day card.

The next day was blue so all the competitors hiked straight up to Polar Peak – the highest peak above the resort – and skied their hardest down Polar Chutes – hitting cliffs and straightlines along the way.

Day 2 and the field was cut – Faction athletes Alex Wall, Ross Janzen and Martha Burley all making it through to ski the super exposed Lizard Headwall – a definite highlight was Alex styling it with a huge and sick 360 off the middle of the face – and the next cut again saw all 3 Faction athletes moving into the finals.

6 girls and 16 guys made it through to day 3, running right off Polar Peak into the Richards area of the Lizard Headwall – Ross found the biggest air of the day moving into 3rd place and picking up the Sickbird along the way. Alex Wall was close behind in 4th place and won the Travis Steeger award for his stylie moves and cool attitude. Martha Burley telemarked into 3rd place and of course the party was at Faction Headquarters that night!

Ross was competing on the 188 Alias, Alex on the 183 3.zero and Martha on the 175 3.zero mounted with tele bindings.

Maxime Cepi introduces the Nendaz Snowpark

French Faction activist Maxime Cepi is running the Nendaz (Switzerland -Valais region) snowpark this winter – and because riding a snowpark you’ve made yourself is the best satisfaction a freestyler can have, Maxime isn’t counting his hours to make the best snowpark possible! And when you ask Maxime how he manages to build such lazer shaped kicker, he says: “love .. with love beside all ! ”

Faction is also sponsoring the Nendaz snowpark, and every weekend you can participate in competitions just for fun such as the “Funky Old-School Fluo Carnival Contest” yesterday.

Don’t hesitate to shred there and catch Maxime ! You ‘ll enjoy the rails, boxes, small, medium and big kickers, ands some walls!
